Definition: Tourism intensity

Category: Tourism

This the ratio tourist nights/resident population. This indicator compares the number of tourists (in terms of overnight stays) to the number of residents that are present in a destination in the same time period (e.g. a day, a month, a year). It measures the intensity of tourism demand in that period and is one of the indicators used to measure the carrying capacity of a tourist destination. It is a factor representing the number of nights spent in a country divided by the inhabitants of the same country. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/coded_files/KS-DS-08-001-EN.pdf
