Definition: Carrying capacity of an oil pipeline

Maximum tonnage of products that the oil pipeline may move during the given period.

Note: The carrying capacity of an pipeline is generally measured in terms of "thousand barrels a day". In converting barrels to tones, the conversion factor for crude oil is: 1 tonne = 7.55 barrels (there is a slight variation according to the type of crude).
