Definition: Type of farming
Category: Agriculture
There are eight main categories in the Community system of typology classification of farms: A. Specialised farms, main category 1-5; 1: Field crops, 2: Horticulture, 3: Permanent crops, 4: Grazing livestock, 5: Granivores. In these categories more than two/thirds of the total Standard Gross Margin (SGM - explained later) come from only one of the main categories (1-5). B. Non specialised farms, main category 6-8; 6: Mixed Cropping, 7: Mixed livestock, 8: Combined Livestock-Cropping. In these categories more than two/thirds of the total SGM of the farm come from two or more of the main categories (1-5). Take as an example a farm where the total sum of the SGM of field crops represents two/thirds or more of total SGM of the farm, the holding will be classified as type 1 (Field crops).
