The variable "type of injury" describes the physical consequences for the victim e.g. bone fracture, wounds etc. The 3 digit version of the ESAW (European Statistics on Accidents at Work) classification for 'Type of injury' should be used for encoding of information on this variable. The current classification is a new one used from the ESAW (European Statistics on Accidents at Work) 1997 data, in accordance with the ILO recommendation mentioned above.
