This investment represents approximately 80% of the balance sheet total of insurance companies and is as such a major accounting item for insurance companies. Investments, include shares in affiliated undertakings, debt securities issued by, and loans to, affiliated undertakings, participating interests, debt securities issued by, and loans to, undertakings with which an insurance undertaking is linked by virtue of a participating interest.
