Raw materials and consumables are purchases of all commodities used as inputs in the production process. Purchases of raw materials and consumables purchased for resale are excluded from this heading and are included under 'purchases of goods and services purchased for resale in the same condition as received'. Purchases of raw materials and consumables are classified in national accounts under 'intermediate consumption', as defined by the European System of Accounts (ESA). Purchases of raw materials and consumables are part of 'Total purchases of goods and services'.
