Definition: Oriented strandboard

A structural board in which layers of narrow wafers are layered alternately at right angles in order to give the board greater elasto-mechanical properties. The wafers, which resemble small pieces of veneer, are coated with, for example, waterproof phenolic resin glue, interleaved together in mats and then bonded together under heat and pressure. The resulting product is a solid, uniform building panel having high strength and water resistance.
