Definition: Operational database

The operational database is the main memory in which the collected statistical information is stored in its original version. It falls between data collection and data compiling. It is the target database for data collection and the source database for subsequent processing and for producing final statistical figures. It contains data lines referring to single transactions and accumulations of identical transactions. They refer to various reference periods.
