Definition: Non-profit institutions serving households

Category: ESSPROS Manual

The sector "Non-profit institutions serving households" consists of all resident non-profit institutions that provide most of their output to households free or at prices which cover less than 50% of their production costs, except those which are controlled and mainly financed by government authorities. Their principal resources, apart from those derived from occasional sales, are derived from voluntary contributions in cash or in kind from households in their capacity as consumers, from payments made by General government and from property income.
