That part of an airport to be used for the take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, excluding aprons. i) Holding bay (ICAO) A defined area where aircraft can be held or by-passed, to facilitate efficient surface movement of aircraft. ii) Intermediate holding position (ICAO) A designated position intended for traffic control at which taxiing aircraft and vehicles shall stop and hold until further cleared to proceed when so instructed by the airport control tower.
