Definition: Large-area specialist

A large-area specialist is in general a large retail store, usually with an area of 2 500 m² or more, which specialises in a specific range of products (e.g. furniture, DIY products, consumer electronics, sports goods, car accessories) or set of needs (e.g. leisure, transport, housing). In Germany, this category may also include smaller specialist chains, such as drugstores, cosmetics shops, apparel and footwear outlets (Fachmärkte).
