Definition: Informal sector

Regarded as a group of production units that, according to the definitions and classifications provided in the System of National Accounts (Rev.4), form part of the household sector as household enterprises or, equivalently, unincorporated enterprises owned by households. The informal sector is defined irrespective of the kind of workplace where the productive activities are carried out, the extent of fixed capital assets used, the duration of the operation of the enterprise (perennial, seasonal or casual), and its operation as a main or secondary activity of the owner. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/SeriesF_93_EN.pdf
