Definition: Intra-EU trade threshold

Category: External trade

In order to reduce the burden on enterprises, particularly small and medium sized ones, the Intrastat system is organised so that the workload for information providers varies broadly according to the amount of trade between Member States in which they are engaged. To achieve this, each Member State applies a system of thresholds aimed at guaranteeing a satisfactory quality of statistical data and limiting the workload for companies.
The thresholds applied by the individual Member States are in general agreed annually.
