Definition: Growing stock

The living tree component of the standing volume (FAO definition). Growing stock is the volume of all living trees and excludes smaller branches, twigs, foliage and roots. It is measured in cubic metres (m³) over bark and includes trees of more than a given size (in terms of diameter) at breast height (Eurostat, "Forestry in the EU and the world.
