Definition: Category of person in railway accident statistics

Category: Transport

- Rail passenger: Any person, excluding members of the train crew, who makes a trip by rail. For accident statistics, passengers trying to embark/disembark onto/from a moving train are included :

- Employees (staff of contractors and self-employed contractors are included): Any person whose employment is in connection with a railway and is at work on duty at the time of the accident. It includes the crew of the train and persons handling rolling stock and infrastructure installations

- Level crossing users: Persons using a level crossing to cross the railway line by any mean of transportation or by foot
