Goods in transport may be classified according to the UNECE – Codes for types of cargo, packages and packaging materials, Recommendation 21, Geneva March 1986. The cargo classes are:
- Liquid bulk
- Solid bulk
- Large freight container
- Other freight container
- Palletised goods
- Pre-slung goods
- Mobile, self-propelled units
- Other mobile units
