Certification is an activity which assesses whether a particular product, service or process or system (e.g. quality management system) complies with requirements defined by a standard or other document containing criteria. It is conducted by an external independent certification body. The result of the successful certification is the certificate awarded to the organisation by the certification body. http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/catalogue_tc/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=42180
