Definition: Corporate spin-off

Category: SNA

A corporate spin-off occurs when the divested part of a corporation is floated on the stock exchange. The newly floated corporation is separately valued on the stock exchange and is an independent corporation. The shares in the newly listed corporation are distributed to the shareholders of the parent corporations who thereafter own shares in two corporations rather than one (§ 21.24). http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/SNA2008.pdf
