Definition: Rank swapping
Category: Statistical methodologies
Rank swapping provides a way of using continuous variables to define pairs of records for swapping. Instead of insisting that variables match (agree exactly), they are defined to be close based on their proximity to each other on a list sorted on the continuous variable. Records which are close in rank on the sorted variable are designated as pairs for swapping. Frequently in rank swapping the variable used in the sort is the one that will be swapped. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/SDC_Handbook.pdf
