Definition: Rubber-sheeting
Category: UN - Geographic Information Systems
A procedure in which the shape and location of objects in a GIS database are modified in a non-uniform manner. Rubber-sheeting is often used to bring a GIS data set in an unknown coordinate system into a known system. The adjustments are defined by specifying a large number of links from locations in the input data set to their corresponding correct reference or control points in the output coordinate system. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/Handbook_Geo_Infrastr_Supp_Census_Activ.pdf
