Definition: Address matching

Category: UN - Geographic Information Systems

The process of matching general attribute information to geographical locations on a street network using a street address. For example, a tabular address register can be matched to a comprehensive digital street map to produce a GIS point layer showing the location of each household. This is sometimes also called geocoding. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/Handbook_Geo_Infrastr_Supp_Census_Activ.pdf
