Definition: Life insurance policy

Category: SNA

A life insurance policy is a sort of saving scheme. For a number of years, the policyholder pays premiums to the insurance corporation against a promise of benefits at some future date. These benefits may be expressed in terms of a formula related to the premiums paid or may be dependent on the level of success the insurance corporation has in investing the funds (§ 6.192). http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/SNA2008.pdf
