Definition: Persons granted temporary protected status

Category: Migration statistics - ILO

Persons granted temporary protected status are persons who are outside of their country of nationality and cannot return to that country without putting their lives in danger. The temporary protected status granted to them by the country in which they find themselves allows them to stay for a limited though often open-ended period (as long as return to their country is considered detrimental to their security). http://books.google.com/books?id=h7Pe-OaViAEC&pg=PA161&lpg=PA161&dq=%22guidelines+for+improving+data+collection+systems%22+%22international+migration+statistics%22&source=bl&ots=mo92iAWGNF&sig=GpEmg5yJVtC1B6JEOtN1ifGN9rI&hl=en&ei=XBgtStm6KsKY-gbLo73yCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#PPA2,M1
