Definition: Persons admitted for humanitarian reasons

Category: Migration statistics - ILO

Persons admitted for humanitarian reasons are persons who, being outside of their country of nationality, are in refugee-like situations because they cannot avail themselves of the protection of their own country and therefore require the protection of the State in which they find themselves. Sometimes such persons are characterized as "refugees type B" because they do not fully meet the criteria stipulated in the 1951 Convention. They usually receive treatment equal to that of Convention refugees. http://books.google.com/books?id=h7Pe-OaViAEC&pg=PA161&lpg=PA161&dq=%22guidelines+for+improving+data+collection+systems%22+%22international+migration+statistics%22&source=bl&ots=mo92iAWGNF&sig=GpEmg5yJVtC1B6JEOtN1ifGN9rI&hl=en&ei=XBgtStm6KsKY-gbLo73yCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#PPA2,M1
