Definition: Economic size of holding in ESU

Category: Agriculture

The economic size of holding is the total standard gross margin of the holding in question for a given reference period (e.g. average of the years 1979 to 1981), given in European size units (ESU). One ESU is equal to ECU 1 000 for all surveys before 1985. For 1985 one ESU is equal to ECU 1 100. For subsequent reference periods it is equal to ECU 1 200.
